What's in FHM This Month?

Welcome to Family History Monthly

Hello and welcome to the Family History Monthly website - the place to keep up with what's new in your favourite genealogy magazine.

Family History Monthly (FHM) is the leading family and social history publication in the UK. Whether you're just starting out, or have been researching for years, FHM is the ideal research companion - helping you to find out more about every aspect of your ancestors' lives and tackling those tricky problems you encounter along the way.

Every issue is packed with new angles and ideas to further your research - from practical advice and information on exciting research sources to social history features that help you understand more about who your ancestors really were. Each month we've got pages of advice from experts, including our agony uncle Paul Blake, and photo dating genius Robert Pols, which will help you knock down your brick walls. Plus, we showcase a different archive, region, surname and occupation - wherever your research has taken you, there's something here for everyone!

Family History Monthly is more than just a magazine — It’s a guide that you can refer to again and again. Check our Back Issues index (www.familyhistorymonthly.com/issues/issues-list) for articles on surnames, occupations, computers, regional research, military history and much more. Don’t forget, back issues are half price for UK subscribers And if you have any queries, why not send us an email to fhm@metropolis.co.uk?

SEEKING HELP? ASK OUR READERS...

Whatever stage you are at, there’s a good chance that other FHM readers are researching the same names, so why not get them to help.

It’s easy! Just send 100 words explaining your quest, including names, dates, place names, and anything else you think is relevant, and we will print your letter in the magazine.

We welcome photos and cuttings as well but please don’t send originals as we can’t be responsible for their safety. Don’t forget to add your own name and full address or email address.

Send your query to fhm@metropolis.co.uk with the subject as HELP, or by post to HELP, FHM, Room 101, 140 Wales Farm Road, W3 6UG

Good luck with your search!

Competition

Many begin tracing their family tree by investigating their male ancestors, after all it was the men who went off to war, were the breadwinners of the family and made the decisions. Or was it? We have five copies of The Female Line: Researching your Female Ancestors by Margaret Ward (worth £7.95), which uncovers the roles of our female forebears. To win, send your answer the following question and along with your name and address to fhm@metropolis.co.uk or to the usual postal address by the 14th October.

Q: Some women won the right to vote in 1918 but they had to over 30. In what year did women win the right to vote on equal terms with men (at 21 years old)?
